James Parry - a solicitor and high court advocate with 20 years experience in the criminal justice sector, ten of which were spent with the magistrates’ court service, and ten in private practice. James is the author of “Legal Aid in Criminal Proceedings” (Butterworths), and various published papers dealing with diverse aspects of the criminal justice system.

James continues to practice as a duty solicitor in addition to providing CPD training.

Aim

To ensure practice managers, partners, legal workers and staff are familiar with their obligations and their firms’ obligation under the Equality and Diversity Act 2010, and that the police and their procedures are compliant with the requirements of LSC standard contracts.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the course delegates will be able to set out:

  • The main elements of the Equality and Diversity Act 2010;
  • The requirements imposed by the Equality and Diversity Act 2010 on a solicitors’ practice;
  • The corresponding requirements of:
    • The professional conduct rules, and;
    • A LSC standard contract;
  • A draft office procedure for implementing the Act;
  • A training plan to ensure staff compliance with the Act.
