What's left for Family Lawyers?

This round of Family Law Contract bidding has seen some dramatic changes. Whole careers have been ruined in one blow. Experienced practitioners have lost all they have worked for, only to be told that they have no future.

Speaking to many practitioners who face the prospect of bankruptcy in October their only recourse appears to be Judicial Review. The Law Society recommend that they write to their MPs (a lot of good that will do) and keep a stiff upper lip, while legal advice is sort.

For the lucky ones, holding on the contract will be the difficult thing. If Family law goes the same way as Crime then there will be even fewer of us as time goes by.

It seems that one thing is very important: having as many solicitors on the Children Panel as possible. This has to put us all in a much stronger position: as the government keep stressing the requirement of expertise and quality. After three years you can undertake the CPQ course which is a stepping stone to gaining admission to the Children's Panel.
